What is EMDR?

EMDR uses rapid sets of eye movements to help you update bothersome experiences in order for you to integrate these memories into a present-day perspective vs the past. EMDR uses your positive and negative thoughts to help you work through troubling memories. The eye movements can dampen the power of emotionally charged memories of past disturbing events. This bilateral stimulation can be done with taping and or eye movement.

Is my privacy protected by Christian Counseling of Arkansas?

Absolutely. Your treatment at Christian Counseling of Arkansas is held in strictest confidence. We cannot acknowledge you as a patient to anyone unless you authorize us to do so via a HIPPA release-of-information form. However, there are limitations to confidentiality. Please refer to the privacy notice you receive at your first appointment.

How do I schedule an appointment at Christian Counseling of Arkansas?

When you call our office, we will discuss with you the different options available regarding using your insurance and or private pay. We will call your insurance carrier and let you know if you have mental health benefits and what those are for counseling. We will let you know what the coverage amount per therapy session is and how many sessions your plan covers. Although there is no guarantee of coverage, we will inform you of what we have learned from your insurance carrier. You can also check your own coverage to be sure you understand their answers to any questions you may have.

How long does counseling last at Christian Counseling of Arkansas?

Our sessions range from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Since everyone has different challenges the length of counseling does vary. The average is about 10 sessions but this is not set in stone. Some individuals want support throughout a difficult situation and others want Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). We are here to help you meet your challenges of life and this may be short or long term.

What variety of approaches are used in therapy?

We use a variety of approaches to meet the unique needs of each client. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) are some of the therapeutic approaches we use. We use an integrative holistic approach that is tailored to each individuals needs and goals.

About us

Laura Hodges, LPC, NCC

Laura Hodges is a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Christian Counseling of Arkansas. She received her Master’s Degree as well as her Advanced Counseling Degree from Regent University in Virginia. Laura has vast experience in counseling individuals and couples. Previously a lead therapist for the Meier Clinic Day Program in Virginia, Laura designed and was responsible for many of its group therapy programs.

Laura is passionate about the integrity of the marital relationship and is committed to helping couples build a solid foundation for a strong and loving marriage. She helps couples manage conflict, strengthen their emotional connection and build a solid friendship.

Many issues in life are related to masked feelings that need to be identified. Laura can help clients get to the root of underlying many negative behaviors. She specializes in counseling individuals with issues of co-dependency, depression, anxiety, sexual issues, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger issues, eating disorders and women’s issues. One of Laura’s missions is to restore unity to the marriage using Biblical principles and tried counseling tools to bring increased intimacy and happiness to marriage.
